The
University of the
Ozarks' business program
was recently awarded
accreditation by the
International Assembly
for Collegiate Business
Education (IACBE),
announced Dr. Daniel
Taddie, vice president
for academic
affairs.
IACBE
is based in Overland,
Kansas, and is the
premier accrediting body
for teaching-oriented,
four-year college and
university undergraduate
business programs. It
was established in 1997
"to promote and support
quality business
management worldwide"
through 'the measurement
and assessment of
effectiveness of
business management
education, the
measurement and
assessment of learning
outcomes, and the
identification of
changes and improvements
that are needed as a
result of the assessment
activity."
"This
special accreditation
validates what we have
known for some time -
that we have a quality
business program," Dr.
Taddie said. "However,
it also provides us with
extra tools to enhance
the program and extra
resources for faculty,
students and
alumni."
Ozarks'
business program offers
bachelor's degrees in
accounting, business
administration, business
education, management
and marketing. The IACBE
accreditation is the
first national
accreditation for U of
O's business program.
Only about one-third of
all business programs
nationally have received
national program
accreditation.
Dr.
Robert Hilton, chair of
the Division of
Business, Government and
Communications, said
accreditation with IACBE
will directly benefit
students in job
placement and graduate
school acceptance.
"Students are going to
be able to put on their
resume and graduate
school applications that
their degrees came from
an externally accredited
business program. There
is also an IACBE Web
site that our students
and alumni can use to
look for jobs around the
world. It's going to
benefit our program in
several
ways."
Accreditation
by IACBE is based on
meeting standards set by
the agency in terms of
curriculum of each
degree program, content
of course offerings,
general education
requirements for a
bachelor's degree,
graduation requirements,
admission criteria and
credentials of the
business faculty.
The
Chamber of Commerce and
the entire community
would like to
congratulate the
University for the
attainment of yet one
more honor.

The
third Leadership Johnson
County class sponsored
by the
Clarksville-Johnson
County Chamber of
Commerce begins in
September. This program
is an issues oriented
leadership development
program that has been
designed to inform,
motivate, and challenge
selected participants
through education and
interaction with
community, county and
state leaders and
decision makers. It
brings together
potential community
leaders to learn more
about Johnson County,
share learning
experiences, exchange
ideas, and thus become
eager to volunteer their
time and talents in the
spirit of community
service.
The
class meets one full day
per month from September
through May. The
co-directors for this
year's class are
Jennifer Moore from
Johnson County Title and
John Frost from the
University of the
Ozarks.
Anyone
residing in Johnson
County may apply for
admission to the
program; up to fifteen
candidates will be
selected to participate.
Tuition is $250 for
program costs. A
candidate may pay the
tuition or his/her
employer may pay the
tuition. Arrangements
must be confirmed prior
to the first meeting in
September. Applications
must be approved. For
additional information
or an application, call
or come by the Chamber
office at 101 N. Johnson

Reminders
On
Sunday, September 8th, First
Presbyterian Church will be
commemorating 9-11-01 and
honoring Johnson County
Firefighters, Law Enforcement
Officers and Emergency Personnel
with a special 10:50 a.m.
service.
Wednesday,
September 11th, there will be a
thirty-minute service on the
Courthouse lawn in remembrance of
9-11-01.
Wednesday,
September 11th, U of O will hold
a Remembrance and Flag Plaza
Dedication ceremony at 9:45 a.m.
on the campus mall. Ozarks will
also dedicate the new Alvin C.
Broyles Flag Plaza, located on
the campus mall between the Seay
Student Center and Walker Hall.
The flag plaza is named in honor
of the late alumnus, trustee and
long-time supporter of the
university.
In
email the Chamber received and
want to pass on: On Wednesday,
September 11, 2002 everyone in
the USA who will be driving a
motor vehicle is asked to drive
with their headlights on during
daylight hours to pay respect to
the victims of that day, show our
nation's solidarity and show
support for our men and women of
the Armed Forces. Everyone is
encouraged to show off the Red,
White and Blue also by wearing
these colors.
Wednesday,
September 25th the Adult
Education Center located at 400
Cherry Street in Clarksville will
have an Open House all day to
celebrate Adult Education Week
(September 22-28). Governor
Huckabee made this proclamation
to focus on the special efforts
and dedication of Arkansas'
educators who prepare individuals
for productive employment and
enriched lives throughout the
state of Arkansas. Although the
number of Arkansans without high
school diplomas dropped nearly
10% according to new census
figures, there is still work to
be done. For more information
call Shirley Freeman at the local
office at 754-2620.

Special
guests will be in Clarksville on
Tuesday, September 10th to see
first hand what we have to offer
tourists and travelers.
Representatives from Tourist
Information Centers around the
state will tour several
facilities while in Clarksville
and the Chamber is preparing
welcome bags. There will be
approximately 17 bags made up,
please make a contribution by
dropping by the Chamber office or
giving us a call for pick-up.
These representatives are our
best salesmen because they can
encourage visitors to spend
additional time in the state and
advise them on things to see and
do while here. Call 754-2340 if
you would like to
help.
David
Clair Photography has moved to
719 Highway 21, Clarksville. They
have a lot more room and are
ready to help you with any
photography needs you may have so
be sure and visit them at their
new location! An Open House is
being planned for September,
watch the Graphic and KXIO for
the date.
The
Arkansas Workforce Investment
Board, in its role of
implementing the Workforce
Investment Act (WIA), is making
$1.75 million in funds available
to businesses and industries
throughout the state to help
train existing employees. It is
required that, at a minimum,
every awarded dollar be matched
100 percent with an employer
contribution, either cash or
in-kind. The Chamber plans to
apply for funds to conduct
training that has been identified
by area industries. For more
information call
754-2340.
