HOSPITALITY TRAINING

Certifying Employees & Promoting Arkansas

On May 19th, 20 participants benefited from presenter- Kristine Puckett's expertise at the annual Hospitality Training and Certification. Ms. Puckett instructed the participants on beneficial guest services which enhance the customer's experience and bring repeat customers to the business.

Astoundingly, "68% of customers don't come back because of an attitude of indifference or rudeness toward the customer by the owner, manager, or some employee." This is such an important detail to keep in mind, especially because you and I are customers everywhere except for work. It is essential to practice an attitude that fortifies the experience and builds trust with your customers.

A main goal of the training is "to help instill community and self-pride in Arkansas' work force," as mentioned by Ms. Puckett. Part of that pride is displayed to guests when we can properly answer to the question "How do I get around to…?" Every employee should be knowledgeable on "distances, major routes, and landmarks." Be attentive to details when directing customers, and remember your Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce has maps and other resources at no cost.

The annual Hospitality Training is a no-cost event to the public, hosted by Ms. Nancy Rogers of the Hampton Inn, and the Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce. It is a required event for approval of the Arkansas Community of Excellence Certification for Johnson County.

Ms. Kristine Puckett is a leading member of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. This last month she actively engaged in promoting Arkansas in coordination with the Travel Industry Association of America, the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Travel and Tourism Industries, and the World Tourism Organization in See America Week & National Tourism Week.

Here's another reason to celebrate, Johnson County is approved for the

ACE ENERGY EFFICIENCY GRANT

This past March the combining efforts by the Chamber of Commerce and Mike Jacobs, County Judge, resulted in a $6000.00 ACE Energy Efficiency Grant for Johnson County. Proceeds will be used in part "to replace the third floor windows in the Johnson County Court House," wrote Mike Jacobs, County Judge on the application. Benefits from this project include a more comfortable environment for those who regularly visit the Court House premises, and participate in activities ranging from community meetings and property assessments to blissful marriage. Estimates predict a 30% annual energy savings for the Court House, and a better working environment.

Being an "ACE" Certified County allows us to be privileged with such opportunities. Since 2000 community leaders have researched ways our community can become better educated in energy efficiency, and have dynamically managed energy funds. However, we receive these grants because members like you are engaged in the economic development of our community and leaders notice this difference. Congratulations!
