Leadership Johnson County IV to Begin

September will mark the beginning of the fourth Leadership Johnson County classes sponsored by the Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce. This program is an issues oriented leadership development program that has been designed to inform, motivate, and challenge selected participants through education and interaction with community, county and state leaders and decision makers. It brings together potential community leaders to learn more about Johnson County, share learning experiences, exchange ideas, and thus become eager to volunteer their time and talents in the spirit of community service.

Anyone residing in Johnson County may apply for admission to the program; fifteen candidates will be selected to participate. Tuition is $250 for program costs. A candidate may pay the tuition or his/her employer may pay the tuition. Arrangements must be confirmed prior to the first meeting in September. Applications must be approved. To date, seven applications have been received at the Chamber office.

The class meets one full day per month from September through May. The co-directors for this year's class are Sherry Boen, Consumer Loan Officer with Bank of the Ozarks and Stacy Nowotny, AVP/Loan Officer with Simmons First Bank. For additional information or an application, call or come by the Chamber office at 101 N. Johnson Street. (479) 754-2340 Get your application in today, time is running out!

University of the Ozarks featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education

The University of the Ozarks is one of six private colleges featured in a cover story in the August 1, 2003 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education, a national weekly newspaper that is widely considered one of the top academic publications in the world.

In an article titled, "Back From the Brink: How six private colleges, once in steep decline, found ways to survive - and even prosper - in tough economic times," The Chronicle reported that Ozarks had "created a vibrant on-campus life for students" to boost enrollment and increase retention rates. The article also pointed out that Ozarks has no long-term debt, has operated with a balanced budget for the past six years, and has doubled its endowment since 1997.

A picture of U of O students scaling a climbing wall on campus was used as the publication's primary cover photograph.

"When The Chronicle contacted us several weeks ago about featuring Ozarks as one of the nation's outstanding success stories, I was elated," said U of O President Dr. Rick Niece. "Then when the issue was published and Ozarks was on the cover, I was ecstatic. All of us at Ozarks have worked tremendously hard the past six years for recognition of this nature. To have the leading publication in the world of academe highlight our campus in this manner is an honor beyond description."

The other private colleges featured in the publication included, Rocky Mountain College in Montana, Bellevue University in Nebraska, Muskingum College in Ohio, University of Hartford in Connecticut, and Chatham College in Pennsylvania.

The more booths that are available, the more visitors/shoppers it will attract. Plan now to participate!

The Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Arkansas provided the population projections for Johnson County to the year 2025 (below). They have also completed a study of population trends for each of the seventy-five Arkansas counties, the state Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), the state regional planning areas as defined by the Arkansas Department of Economic Development (ADED), and the state as a whole. These studies were done to provide important data to facilitate the decision-making process for Arkansas government and business. You can visit their website at http://cber.uark.edu/ where you will find additional demographic and economic information.

Clarksville, Arkansas - The Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce announced this week that the Dale Carnegie Course® is coming to Clarksville. With nearly a century of proven success, the Dale Carnegie Course® is highly recommended for anyone who wants to improve his or her self-confidence, communication and leadership skills. It is also excellent for people who seek to control stress and anxiety. The class is being co-sponsored by the Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce Workforce Training Committee and Jerry Wilson & Associates, LLC, the license-holder for Dale Carnegie Training in Arkansas.

"To succeed today, you must begin partnering with employees in a process of continuous improvement that creates change by choice. It's the people that determine the success of any company," said Daren Howard, Sales Manager for Jerry Wilson & Associates, LLC, the license holder for Dale Carnegie Training in Arkansas.

The Dale Carnegie Course® is designed to maximize the growth of organizations and focuses on modifying human behavior. The concrete principles of success that are taught enable people to take an active role in the forward movement of their organization.
