"Free Rides for Senior Citizens"

By now I am sure most of you have heard about the "Free Rides for Senior Citizens" program that has started through the CJC Development Foundation. (Our Foundation)
We currently have 37 sponsors that share a pro-rated amount of the billing each month. (Estimated between $5.00 and $20.00 a month for each sponsor)
This fee is 100% tax deductible and each sponsor receives free advertising on any flyers we put out and on the sign that hangs in the Taxi.
This program has grown quicker than we anticipated. We are in need of more sponsors for this program in order to keep the pro-rata share under $20.00.
If you are interested in sponsoring or would like additional information about this program, please contact The Chamber at 754-2340.

Attention Members
Starting Monday, July 3, 2006, Johnson County Fair Pageant applications will be available at the Chamber Office.

"New Arkansas Clean Indoor Air Act"

The Arkansas Clean Indoor Act, Act 8 of 2006, was passed by the Arkansas Legislature during the April Special Session and signed into law by Governor Mike Huckabee.
The Act does not single out any one type of business. It is a broad law that applies to all types of businesses in Arkansas. The Act does not change any current Arkansas liability rules or laws. Smoking will not be permitted in enclosed areas within places of employment, within any government owned, leased or operated space, or in any enclosed public places.
Public places include: banks, bars, barber shops and beauty saloons, educational facilities, healthcare facilities, laundromats, public transportation facilities, reception areas, restaurants, retail food productions and marketing establishments, retail service establishments, retail stores, shopping malls, sports arenas, theaters and waiting rooms.
Act 8 restricts smoking in workplaces, but allows smoking in business with fewer than three employees that are not public places and any restaurants or bars that prohibit the patronage or employment of people under 21. The act was amended to exempt all hotels with fewer than 25 rooms from the provision requiring that 20 percent of its room be designated for smoking. Business owners may request to exempt their location under strict criteria.
Other exemptions include where people live: private homes except when used as a licensed child/adult/health care facility and areas within long-term care facilities that are designated by the facility for supervised patient smoking only; designated smoking areas on the gaming floor of any franchisee of the Arkansas Racing Commission; businesses that sell tobacco including retail tobacco stores and all workplace of any manufacturer, importer or wholesaler of tobacco products, of any tobacco leaf dealer or processor and all tobacco storage facilities; and outdoor areas of places of employment.

Tickets are 1 for $1.00, 6 for $5.00, or 13 for $10.00. Come in the store today and take a look. Drawing will be held September 1, 2006. (Need not be present to win)
