Leadership
Johnson County
is an issues
oriented
leadership
development
program that
has been
designed to
inform,
motivate, and
challenge
selected
participants
through
education and
interaction
with community,
county and
state leaders
and decision
makers. It is
designed,
organized, and
governed by a
local advisory
board made up
of leaders in
Johnson County
and is
sponsored by
the Chamber of
Commerce.
Hundreds of
communities
across the
United States
have developed
community
leadership
programs very
similar to
Leadership
Johnson County
with some of
them having
been in
existence for
over 20 years.
The program
brings together
potential
community
leaders to
learn more
about Johnson
County, share
learning
experiences,
exchange ideas,
and thus become
eager to
volunteer their
time and
talents in the
spirit of
community
service. It
also provides a
forum for its
participants to
continue
community
education and
networking.
The
next class will
be starting in
September with
co-directors
Terri Stumbaugh
and Doug
Wharton.
Applications
are being
accepted now
for this class.
The class meets
one full day
per month from
September
through May and
anyone residing
in Johnson
County may
apply. The
Advisory Board
reviews
applications
and 15
candidates will
be selected to
participate.
Tuition for the
class is $250
for program
costs and some
meal and break
expenses. A
candidate may
pay the tuition
himself or his
employer may
pay the
tuition. One
scholarship per
year is also
given. Call the
Chamber of
Commerce office
at 754-2340 for
additional
information or
to get an
application.

GLENN MILLER
ORCHESTRA
COMMUNITY
CONCERT JUNE
21,
2005
Article
courtesy of
George
Stone
The
Clarksville
Kiwanis Club
will be the
"Keep-it-Running
Committee" for
the June 21st
Glenn Miller
Orchestra
Community
Concert that
will include a
large community
appreciation
for our
military
personnel both
past and
present. Glenn
Miller was the
premier big
band leader of
the 1930s and
early 40s. When
World War II
began, he
joined the Army
and organized
the
internationally
known Glenn
Miller Army Air
Force
Orchestra.
Miller died in
an airplane
crash on a trip
from London to
Paris in 1944
but his
orchestra
continues to
perform to this
day. The Glenn
Miller
Orchestra, much
like Bob Hope,
has been
recognized as
an icon for
both its
civilian and
military
performances
for more than
sixty years.
So, it is
appropriate
that we invite
the Glenn
Miller
Orchestra to
perform in
concert for the
enjoyment of
our community
as well as to
honor our
veterans both
past and
present. The
idea has caught
on downtown and
has a great
deal of support
from several
groups such as
the
Clarksville-Johnson
County Chamber
of Commerce,
Clarksville
Lions and
Rotary Clubs,
and Johnson
County Veterans
Organizations.
Several other
groups are
ready to
volunteer their
services as
well.

Arkansas Grown
Arkansas
Agriculture is diverse in crops and scale
of production. So no matter what you are
looking for, Arkansas farmers probably
produce it and you should be able to find
it on the Arkansas Agriculture Product
Market, developed by the Arkansas State
Plant Board in an attempt to help
potential buyers locate Arkansas
producers. The Farmer's Market that is in
the Chamber parking lot is listed on this
site and the state is also supplying logo
sacks to the farmers for the produce they
sell. Go to
www.naturallyarkansas.org
and
find just about any kind of produce
availability in the state!
