They are having a huge success in competition and on May 21 & 22 Clarksville will host the 2004 USA Regional Junior Olympic Tournament. This tournament includes the State Champions from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Missouri. This all-day event will be held at the Marvin L. Vinson Multi-Purpose Building; ticket prices for the day are $7 for adults and $5 for children age 5-12.
Celebrities are on schedule to attend and Mr. May tells us that competitors will be coming to town a couple of days early for climate adjustment; approximately sixty to sixty-six motel rooms will be utilized. The club has an article in USA Boxing Magazine. Kiwanis Club Good Friday Community Prayer Breakfast

Cost is $10.00 per person.
Featured speaker will be Lu Hardin, President University of Central Arkansas. The public is welcome and urged to attend.

Iva Nell Gibbons, a Clarksville attorney with 25 years of experience, is running for Circuit Judge, Division 2.
"This particular judgeship deals with family and domestic issues. As a mother and grandmother I believe I can bring an important perspective to matters that may have a tremendous impact on children and families. Over the years I have handled a wide variety of domestic issues including child custody, divorce, adoptions and guardianships. In fact my interest in law stemmed from the time I spent working for Franklin County Social Services (now known as DHS) investigating abuse and neglect cases. I learned first hand the need to have laws in place to protect our children and our families. I was made aware of the importance of programs which provide services to work to keep families together.
I also saw the devastation brought to families when false charges of abuse or neglect are alleged to further the case of one party or another in a divorce case, or for other reasons. It is paramount to have someone on the bench who has had training to recognize the difference. After I received my law degree I again devoted some time to investigating abuse through the SCAN organization along with practicing law. It is important to be able to identify the types of problems involved when families are in crisis, such as in divorce and/or custody cases, whether these problems are related to child abuse and neglect or not, as well as to know the solutions provided by law. The foremost tool in doing both is the years of being in the trenches, practicing law on a daily basis and working with these families as a trial lawyer and an advocate. Having done so for 25 years, I feel I am now highly and uniquely qualified to serve as Circuit Judge in this position.
Property cases also will be heard by this judge and I have had extensive practice in property law and, at one time, maintained a real estate brokers license. I will use my experience to make equitable decisions in property disputes. It is my goal to apply the law fairly and knowledgably, regardless of the type of case that I should adjudicate or the age, gender, race or financial status of the parties appearing before me.
However, first and foremost, the Division 2 Judgeship works with children and families to help solve problems. I feel I can combine my knowledge of the law, my arbitration skills and my compassion for families in the crisis of dissolution to implement real solutions resulting in a positive change for them and the people on our community."
