PROGRESS REPORT 2005

Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce

2005 was a very busy year for the Chamber. We addressed many of the goals in the "ACE" strategic plan which will enhance economic and community development for the county and cities within the county. This year alone we have accomplished the following goals:

  • Wrote and administrated grants ($10,000.00) from the Arkansas River Valley Tourist Association to purchase postcards, brochures, postage for inquiries, and co-op advertising for businesses to promote holiday (Christmas) activities.
  • Wrote and administrated grant ($1,000.00) through NRA for the Johnson County Youth Safety Program.
  • Wrote and administrated ($1,000.00) grant through Walmart for the Johnson County Art Waves to hold art classes for area residents.
  • Wrote and administrated ($500.00) grant for the Boy Scouts through Walmart to pay for Eagle projects; some of which include projects on the Spadra Creek Walking Trail and proposed Lamar Walking Trail.
  • Solicited and administrated funds ($1,000.00) for Food Drive for the low income of Johnson County, to provide food baskets during the holiday season. This year over 600 low income individuals received these baskets.
  • Wrote and administrated $50,000 grant ($25,000 this year) for the Tobacco Program. The majority of these funds were spent with local businesses, and the programs were held in all Johnson County schools by area volunteers.
  • Administrated grant ($1,000.00) to fund the Johnson County Health Fair held annually at the Marvin Vinson Center.
  • Wrote and received grant to upgrade equipment to safety and ADA standards for four Clarksville City Parks including the softball complex. The City will administrate the $182,665.00 received to see this project to completion
  • Wrote and administrated ($20,000.00) grant funding to conduct workforce training and seminars for industries, businesses and area residents. Also to help pay the Chamber for staff time and administration. Also coordinated and conducted free Hospitality Training for approximately 60 employees of area businesses.
  • Coordinated lease and "ACE" studies on potential Industrial property for the City. Cost of studies exceeded $12,000.
  • I represented County at the Arkansas River Valley Tri-Peaks Regional Association as President of the Board, United Way Board member, Johnson County Community Foundation Board, and Arkansas Hospitality Travel Council Board, U of O SIFE and Business Advisory Council, Child Development Advisory Council, Johnson County Single Parent Scholarship Fund Treasurer, and a member of Arkansas Chamber of Commerce Executives, and Arkansas Economic Developers.
  • Coordinated and developed a brochure for CL&W as handouts that the City, CL&W and Chamber could use for individuals and contractors seeking permits for expansions and new structures in Clarksville.
