Holiday Season 2002

The Christmas Season for 2002 is behind us now but everything from the beautiful lights to the generosity of the community will not fade for some time. The University of the Ozarks Women organized the Angel Tree with 309 families being assisted. Over 1000 people of which close to 600 were children had a brighter Christmas thanks to the businesses and individuals who contributed time and financial aid. Carol Blackard with DHS reported that the food & gift baskets distribution was a huge success. Clarksville Light & Water employees did a wonderful job decorating and the Chamber showed our appreciation for all of the hard work by having them for lunch on December 16th. Carol & Cole Martin, Ken & Carlene Miller, Adele Jacobs and Vicki Lyons did a wonderful job cooking for the lunch!

Industry Invited to Promote "Hot Deals" and "Vacation Packages" Via Internet

A new feature has been added to www.arkansas.com allowing private businesses, cities and regional tourism associations to promote, free of charge, "Hot Deals" and "Vacation Packages", according to the News From The Department of Parks & Tourism Newsletter. Jay Harrod, communications manager at Arkansas Parks & Tourism, said the Hot Deals Section enables lodging establishment owners to respond quickly to unexpected vacancies or to boost business during slow times. The Vacation Packages section provides properties with many recreational opportunities or businesses working in partnerships a chance to advertise packages at a web site that, in 2002, has received on average 157,992 visits per month. Individual businesses are responsible for developing the special deals or packages and posting them to the Department's web site through an easy-to-use, password-protected administrative site. Parks & Tourism is planning to send a news release in January to more than 750 media outlets to help promote the new web site section. For more information contact Sarah Harper by phone at (501) 682-7602 or by email at sarah.harper@mail.state.ar.us
