Christmas Lighting & Parade

The Christmas Lighting Ceremony & Christmas Parade will both be held on Saturday, December 4th.

The Lighting Ceremony will be at 5:30 pm on the Courthouse Lawn. The Parade will be at 6:30 pm on Main Street.

Immediately following the parade, Santa will be at the Courthouse to visit with children and hand out bags of candy.

Area merchants and individuals are invited to enter the "Tour of Lights" contest. The contest consists of three catagories: Business/Industry, Residential, and Nonprofit. Deadline to enter the Lighting contest is Friday, December 10th at 4:00 p.m. Interested parties may enter by contacting the Chamber office at 754-2340. Certificates of Award will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the parade and lighting contests.For more information on any of the upcoming events call the Chamber office at 754-2340.

The "The Buck Stops Here" campaign implemented in November 2001 is continuing to keep local money local. Every dollar spent in Johnson County turns over an average of 7 times before it leaves the county which enhances the tax base and benefits area schools, roads and services. The following merchants have participated in this season's campaign so be sure to shop at home for all of your gift needs, catering and party planning!

SouthWest Service Dogs

SouthWest Service Dogs is a charitible organization ran by volunteers. They train dogs for anyone who has a disibility as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

They are avialable to give demonstrations to organizations that are interested in what Service Dogs can do. Just call Kate at 754-3682.

 

 

 

 

Meet Our New Board Members 

Julie Kersey- is a 1976 graduate of CHS and a 1980 Graduate of U of O. She left Clarksville 24 years ago and has recently returned to Clarksville to be closer to family and good friends. She opened Julie's Perks about 1 1/2 years ago and is so thankful of how our town has welcomed her back home. She is married to Randy Kersey, a carpenter, who also is staying very busy with his business in Clarksville.

Sherry Boen- has been employed in Johnson County for the past 25 years in the finance industry. She is married to Robert Boen, and they have 2 children, a son Jeremy, and a daughter, Natasha. Both of whom are married and are residents of Johnson County. She is a loan officer with Bank of the Ozarks, where she has been employed for 6 years. She has been a member of the Chamber for the last 10 years, and have served on different committees over this period of time. Sherry served as Co-Director of the Johnson County Leadership Program for 2003-2004, and was Johnson County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year for the year 2003.

Reba Pridgin-has a BS degree from Ozarks and MS degree from University of Arkansas and had done additional work in education leadership at UCA that certifies her as a public school Secondary Principal and Superintendent. She has served for three and a half years as Director of Alumni Relations for University of the Ozarks, recently named Director of Development. Prior to that, worked for 16 years at Clarksville Public Schools, first as a vocational business teacher and then as District Treasurer. Reba previously served on the Chamber Board and was President in 1999 and was named member of the year in 1999. She is married to David, they have four children and three grandchildren.

Don Stimpson -is President of First Arkansas Valley Bank in Clarksville, and is a 21 -year resident of Johnson County, and a member of Holy Redeemer Church. Don is also past Board Member of the following: Clarksville Chamber of Commerce, Area agency on Aging, Clarksville Country Club, Clarksville Kiwanis Club, Johnson County Fair Board, University of the Ozarks Booster Club, Clarksville Planning and Zoning, and the Alston Shane Youth Center.

 Iva Nell Gibbons-has been a Johnson County resident virtually all her life. She grew up in Lamar and attended school there through High school. She graduated from Arkansas Tech in 1972 with a B. A. in psychology and worked as a protective services worker for DHS (then Social Services) until she began Law School in 1979. She graduated from Leflar School of Law at U. of A. in Fayetteville in 1979 and has practiced law since that time. She maintained a general practice in Clarksville until 1991, at which time she went to work for the Federal Office of Hearings and Appeals, Social Security Administration in Fort Smith. In 1995 she returned to private practice in Clarksville, concentrating her practice on Social Security Disability work , which is what she continues to do at the present time. Her parents are Bobbie and Valley Sherrill of Lamar. She is married to David Gibbons and they have six children and eight grandchildren.

 Bert Heil- Bert and his wife Diane relocated from Nixon, Mo to the Knoxville area in January of 2003 when he joined Baldor Electric as the Plant Manager of the Clarksville facility. He serves on the Boards of Forrester-Davis, the Clarksville Rotary Club, and he also serves as President of the Piney Bay Lot Owners Association. He is a Certified Manufacturing Engineer in Manufacturing Management, a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, American Society of Quality, and the Clarksville Rotary Club.He and his wife Diane have three daughters and seven grandchildren.

Bruce Wilson-Bruce R. Wilson is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a Juris Doctrate from the University Of Arkansas School Of Law, where he was a Fulbright Award recipient. Bruce has practiced law in Clarksville since 1982 when he joined Edgar A. Woolsey, Jr. in practice. In addition to his general practice which includes civil litigation, probate and estate planning, real estate, domestic relations and family law, business and banking matters, Bruce also serves as the Clarksville City Attorney and as the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Johnson County. His community service has included the Board of Directors of the Johnson Regional Medical Center, the Johnson County Boys Club, the Concerned Citizens for Johnson County, the Clarksville Rotary Club and American Legion Baseball. Bruce also serves as a Director of Citizens Fidelity Insurance Company, is a member of the Arkansas Bar Association's Ethics Committee and is a deacon at Stillwell Baptist Church. Bruce and his wife Charlotte will celebrate their 25th anniversary in December of 2004 and are the proud parents of one daughter, Allison Hart, of Clarksville, one son, Joshua Wilson, a freshman at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, and one beautiful granddaughter, Aurora Elizabeth Hart.

On Tuesday, November 23, the Johnson County Senior Center celebrated the completion of their new kitchen. Many seniors were in attendance, as well as many community officials, and Senior Enter employees.
