Ribbon Cutting/Grand Opening

First Security Bank

The Grand Opening of First Security Bank was held on October 15, 2004.

First Security Bank was chartered in 1920 as Farmers National Bank. From 1920 until early 1931, Farmers National Bank was located approximately one block west from the current bank location. On February 20, 1931 the building in which Farmers National Bank was located burned to the ground. The search for a new location began immediately. At the time, the First National Bank of Clarksville was being liquidated and the Board of Directors decided to purchase its facilities for a total price of $7,250.00. This brought the bank to its current location today.

Over the years the bank has had several remodeling, in 1954, 1962, 1974 &1975, 1983. In 1978 the Bank was sold, and the name was changed to Farmers Bank & Trust Company. In 1995 the Bank was purchased by First Security Bancorp. On July 12, 2003, Farmers Bank & Trust Company changed its name to First Security Bank of Clarksville in preparation for the new building. On August 2, 2004 First Security opened the doors of the new building.

First Security Bank is "A Real Community Bank" and has been for over 80 years. Customers do not have to worry about their bank being sold to a large bank that has never heard of all the communities in Johnson County - communities that First Security Bank considers priceless.

Westside News

Westside Highschool participated in BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) Robotics again this year. Last year the team competed and placed 2nd overall at River Valley BESt at UA Fort Smith. This year, they took 1st place over the 20 competing schools! This again allows them to compete in national competition at SMU in Dallas, Texas.

As part of the competition the team must raise funds, find sponsors, and compete in many aspects of the game other than just building a robot.

If any one is interested in making a cash donation, please contact Pat Brooks at Westside hIgh School (497-1171), you would be listed on their Web site, named in newsletters, and recognized in their display booth as a BEST Friend of Johnson COunty Westside BEST Robotics. The support our community gives makes a worls of difference in the lives of our students.

NEW CHAMBER SIGN UNVEILED

Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was our new Chamber of Commerce Sign. After four years of design work on the new Chamber Logo, and another nine months of work to develop the overall design of the sign and marquee, the Chamber unveiled the finished product this October. Thanks to Clarksville Sign Works who was hired to build our masterpiece and Acme Brick for the donation of the brick.
