Ambassador's Featured Member of the Month "Johnson County Extension Office" September's featured Member of the Month was the Johnson County Extension Office.

The 19th Annual Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce Talent Show Dr. Jim Collins will emcee this year's event. He is a professor of Agri-Businessat Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. He holds a BS Degree inhorticulture from Mississippi State University and MS and PHD Degrees fromLouisiana State University. Besides teaching, he is an active member ofthe Russellville Rotary Club and the First United Methodist Church. He was awarded the 2003 Faculty Award of Excellence in service Tech. He has judged numerous pageants and talent competitions throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, and Nebraska and has been on the production staff of the Miss Lake Dardanelle Pageant for many years. He is currently Executive Director of the Miss Arkansas Tech University Pageant and has twice been a delegate of the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City. This years Talent Show will be held at the Clarksville high School Fine Arts Center, Saturday, October 16. Entry fee is $30 if you pre-register, $35 the day of the contest. Tickets are $6. Call the Chamber for more information. FMLA LAW SEMINAR On October 20, 2004 Chad Dalton from the US Department of Labor will be presenting 2 classes on the FMLA Law. The $20 fee includes instruction, menu planner, shopping list, preparation schedule, table décor, and a gourmet meal prepared by the participants. Mandy Myers will lead this workshop and was recently a finalist in the national Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest held in California. Class runs from 9am-1pm. Saturday-October 9 Making Poetry from Your Memories Ben Myers, professor of English at U of O, will lead this one day class. This class which runs from 2pm-5pm costs $15, and will help people turn their life experiences into poetry to share with others. Topics that will be covered include, putting your thoughts into a rhythm, finding the "right" word, using metaphor to explain the unexplainable, and how to find a publisher. Tuesdays- October & November Understanding Contemporary Islam Classes will be led by visiting Muslim scholar Dr. Izzud-Din Musa. The classes, which are free and open to everyone, will address the diversity of Muslim practices and attitudes toward the West. The classes will run from 7 pm-8pm on October 19 and 26 and on November 2, 9, 16, and 23. The classes will be structured so that people can attend either a few or all of them. Fort Smith-based owner of Baldor, Clarksville makes large and small generators sold worldwide. Hurricanes such as Charley, Frances, and Ivan have increased sales by more than 1,000 generators over the past six weeks adding an extra $1 million to Baldor's sales figures.
