LAMAR

The Lamar School District encompasses over 300 square miles of Eastern Johnson County and a small portion of Western Pope County . The school is located approximately 1 ½ miles off of I-40 in Lamar Arkansas. Superintendent Roy Hester and staff serve over 1,100 student’s kindergarten through twelfth grade. The district also houses the “Totem Pole” daycare on campus for children from infant to school age. Lamar also has an approved ABC preschool program on campus as well. Lamar students score above the state average on all of its benchmark and end-of-course standardized tests. In the fall of 2009, Lamar Elementary was awarded a grant and was recognized by the Arkansas Department of Education for achieving a level of excellence in test score improvement from 2007 to 2008. Lamar High School FFA chapter has received the title of top chapter in the state for the years 2005-06 and 2006-07. Approximately ¼ of the certified faculty are graduates of Lamar High School , finished their degrees and have returned to their alma mater to teach. Lamar School District is an outstanding school that takes pride in educating today’s young people for tomorrow’s world.
