Message from the Mayor

The town of Lamar was originally called Cabin Creek. During President Cleveland's administration the citizens petitioned the Arkansas Legislature to have the name changed to Lamar. In 1872, the Missouri Pacific Railway reached Lamar, and the city became a prosperous trading post

Lamar has several old homes dating back to the turn of the century. The city has a park located south of Highway 64. The park consists of two softball fields, and is in the process of expansion.

Lamar City Hall is located at 437 West Main on Highway 64. It houses a fire station and a community building. The fire department has three trucks. The individuals who help fight the fires are a volunteer staff with an excellent rating. The county police force provides the community with protection.
